Abstract

Utah life-expectancy comparison between LDS and non-member counterparts, with disease-specific analysis.

Findings for Latter-day Saints

LDS males live ~7.3 years longer than non-member Utah males.
LDS females live ~5.8 years longer than non-member Utah females.
Lower coronary disease and cancer risk than national averages.
Less multiple sclerosis incidence than national averages.

Limitations in methodology

Utah-specific; LDS vs. non-LDS comparison within Utah may not generalize nationally; some confounds (income, education) only partially controlled.
